A few months ago, we posted about an Eversave deal for Designs by Janessa. In the post I described Janessa’s jewelry as “hand stamped”. But I found out that her work is much more than that. Each piece is an individual work of art. As you can see in the pics above, her charms are made out of fingerprints- your loved ones actual print! She sends out a 2 part silicone molding compound. The customer mixes the compound and pushes their finger into it. They mail it back in the prepaid return envelope and in 3-4 weeks they receive their charm. The charm is made out of silver metal clay and fired in a kiln. The metal clay is 90% silver and 10% clay binder. When fired, the clay binder burns off and the resulting piece is 99% pure silver. Cool hun!?
As I was searching around Janessa’s site, I also saw that she does “memorial pieces”. In addition to creating charms from fingerprint impressions, Janessa can create charms from ink prints or hand writing samples. (Since this method is a bit more time consuming and the result looks slightly different, additional charges will apply).
In March a dear, sweet family that Kristy and I have the honor of knowing, experienced the worst kind of tragedy. Their almost 3 year old son was struck by a car and died. Janessa’s memorial charms came to my mind. After talking to her about this terrible situation Janessa graciously agreed to donate a charm to the mother. We sent the son’s handprint to her in a pdf file and she was able to make a silicone stamp from that print. The result is priceless! A beautiful reminder of a child who was an “energetic servant”.
Like I mentioned before, Janessa’s work is more than just stamped jewelry. Each piece is a one of a kind piece of art. And something to be cherished. Check out her work on her web site or her Facebook page. Like what you see? (I am sure you will!) Janessa is offering 4our2cents readers 10% off their order through September 2011 by using code “4our2cents10″ at checkout.
*Note: The charm was a donation to us from Janessa, we paid separately for the chain and shipping. Both Janessa and the DeGarmeaux family knew we would be writing a post on this exchange. To see more about the DeGarmeaux’s story read this article or visit Scarlet City Church.
