Last night I had the opportunity to attend a free screening of 58: The Film. I have to admit that even though I watched the trailer I really had no idea what to expect. It is definitely not the fun, feel-good movie I look for when selecting a date night movie but with free babysitting (courtesy of “Grammy”) and some rare free time, we took advantage of the opportunity.
Even though I would not have picked this movie at first glance, I highly recommend you see this one. It deals with world wide poverty in a way that is gripping, moving and calls for action. What if we each did our part to alleviate extreme poverty? The documentary suggests that this is not only possible but probable within our lifetime. If only we would take action.
58: The Film will be in theaters this month and I do hope you get a chance to see it. I plan to share this one with my church and friends in hopes that as a group, we can contribute to this effort. Click here to see how you can join in. Please let us know if you see it and tell us what you think!
For your own opportunity to see free screenings of movies (such as this one as well as Tangled), check out Furst Access.
Here are a few opportunities to do your part to help the poor:
Africa New Life : We personally support a child via Africa New Life. It’s a great organization. We were able to choose a child the same age as our twins. In addition to monthly support, we exchange letters so my kids have a penpal in Rwanda!
Compassion International: Previously we supported a child through this organization until he grew up. We love this one too!
Feeding America: This website connects you with ways to reach the poor in your own town.
Thirst Relief International: According to Thirst Relief, one billion people lack access to clean drinking water. Thirst Relief exists to provide clean water access for all. There are many people and projects to fund at this site and it’s based in Columbus, Ohio!
