2CentSunday!

The Treasure Principle, by Randy Alcorn

This little book, based on the Bible, can be a life changing read. The subtitle is “unlocking the secret of joyful giving”. Over the next 4 Sundays we will briefly continue to share about 1 of the 6 treasure principles. Here’s number 3.

Principle 3: Heaven, not earth, is my home. Page 45 of my edition, Alcorn reveals the third principle. It is based on four (among many) passages from Scripture. First, we are “ambassadors for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20). From heaven, God is making His appeal to people through us. We are visitors on earth representing our heavenly home. Second, our “citizenship is in heaven” (Philippians 3:20). This simply means that we are not home on earth. Third, our desire is for a “better country”, a “heavenly” country (Hebrews 11:16). We are strangers, aliens and exiles on earth (Hebrews 11:13). The Scripture clearly teaches that heaven is our true home and we have a job to do while on earth.

If this is true, does it make sense to spend all or most of our money on things that will perish? “We have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either” (1 Timothy 6:7, NASB). “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return” (Job 1:21, ESV). Does the person with the most toys at the end really win? Jesus said, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me” and “whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me” (Matthew 25:40,45, NIV). Are we spending money on things of this world or on things of eternity? Food for thought.

Stay tuned for principle 4!
