What a great way to save money. If you don't like spending money on toilet paper you will really be frustrated with the cost of diapers! Many frugalistas choose cloth diapers.
Check out this link for lots of great info on cloth diapers.

MyPoints!
You often hear us talking about earning free gift cards from a program called MyPoints. We cannot say enough about MyPoints! Mary joined 10 years ago and has been a loyal member ever since. Just how does it work? You earn points for doing what you already do online: shopping, reading emails, playing games, searching the web, taking surveys, printing coupons and more! You pick the rewards you want. Gift cards are quickly delivered to your door, free of charge. Just recently BzzAgent teamed up with MyPoints to increase the point earning opportunities. Try MyPoints today, we know you will love it!

Good Morning Coffee Drinkers
If you are spending an arm and a leg at Starbucks, just think of all the money you could be saving by making your own coffee at home. I'm a mocha fan but I have a hard time justifying $4 per cup. My first rule is this. If I don't have a free gift card to Starbucks/Caribou/Tim Hortons then I don't buy the coffee. Where do you get these free gift cards you ask? Primarily My Points. Both Mary and Kristy are HUGE proponents of My Points.
If I've run out of my free gift cards it's either time to start earning more My Points or get creative. This morning I found this recipe online and it could NOT be easier to make a mocha than this. Use your coupons, buy (insert your favorite coffee brand here) and save save save. Imagine what you could save if you were no longer buying that fabulous cup of Joe!

Farmers Markets
One of my favorite places to shop is the local Farmers Market. We are fortunate to have one of the largest ones in our state right down the street. This is a great way to shop for fresh, organic produce and meats while supporting the local economy. Sometimes you can find better deals at a Farmers Market than Costco or the grocery.
For example, I buy maple syrup at the Farmers Market and it costs 1/4th of what I would pay at Kroger. Their price is comparable to what I would pay at Costco and I'm supporting a local farmer. Also, a Farmers Market is a great way to get out of the house on a Saturday morning and see some friends, have some coffee or just enjoy a leisurely Saturday morning (unless you have 3 kids in tow!)
So, get out there and get some fresh produce. Can't find a Farmers Market near you? Check out this site.

Free UnderJams
Free UnderJams. Get a free sample HERE.
Wondering what UnderJams are? Many children (especially boys) have bedwetting issues until they are 10 or older. UnderJams are a cooler form of pull-ups that keep the bed dry and relieves the embarrassment of "pull-ups".

Never Pay for Toothpaste Again!
That's right, there are certain necessities that we do not pay for anymore. Between store promotions, double/triple coupons and store stacked coupons, you would be surprised how many items you can get for free. In the world of marketing they are called "loss leaders". If you don't mind switching between brands, you can build quite a stockpile of products. Here is one scenario on how it works. Let's say CVS has toothpaste on sale for $1.99 and you can get $1 back in Extra Care Bucks (ECB= coupon that can be used on your next purchase). Use a $1.00 MQ for that brand and you've gotten the toothpaste for free!! Sometimes the deals are even sweeter. Walgreens and CVS often list an item as Free (after ECB or Register Rewards). If you pair that deal with a MQ, it's what we call a money maker!
So what items do Kristy and Mary get for free?:
Toothpaste
Toothbrushes
Floss
Shampoo and Conditioner
Deodorant
Shaving Cream
Razors
Band-aids
Softsoap hand soap
Kid shampoo.
So your stockpile is growing but you just can't pass up the weekly freebie (or money maker!). What can you do with your deals?

- Fill a shower caddy with toiletry items as a gift for a High School Sr. going off to college in the fall.
- Donate the items to your local women's shelter or homeless mission.
- Make an anonymous care package for a friend whose family is out of work.

STARBUCKS ICE CREAM!!!!
Living in the Ice Cream capital has its advantages...and disadvantages, namely calories. Even though I love my local favorites I've found Starbucks Ice Cream to be fabulous. What's even better is that Starbucks OFTEN puts out coupons for their ice cream that can be found at the grocery.
Here is a link to a 75cent coupon for Starbucks Ice Cream. Check to see if your grocery store doubles coupons because if so you will have quite the deal! My favorite is Java Chip Frappaccino.
Enjoy!

One More Reason to Love Huggies
The people at Huggies have figured out that printable coupons are the new tool in a frugal mom's arsenal. Right now there are some great high value Huggies coupons out there (for Snug & Dry, Little Movers, Little Snuggles and wipes). Even if you do not have any little ones in diapers still, they make a great shower gift for any expectant mom. Have you seen the new limited edition little movers that look like jeans? So cute! And if you match the coupons up to deals at CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, etc., you can often get jumbo packs for less that $4.50 each! In instance, check out Kroger's promotion running thru 6/6. Buy $15 (before coupons) of Huggie products and get $3 off instantly with your plus card.
Here is one to start you with $3/1 Huggies Little Movers or Little Snugglers printable coupon Mercedes at Common Sense with Money has a more extensive list of Huggies printables. Check it out here!

Coupon Organization
Half the battle of saving money with coupons is organization. Sure you clipped and printed all those deals, but now what? Some people choose to use a 3 ring binder with photo sleeve inserts, an expandable envelope or a professionally produced option like the couponizer .
Mary uses the traditional expandable envelope. Inside, coupons are categorized by baby, food, home, beauty, toys and misc. I also have separate spaces for store specific Qs (i.e.- CVS ECB, Walgreens RR and Target store coupons that can be stacked). Before leaving for the store, I check my price match-ups and pull the coupons I want to use. Then I use the pulled coupons as my "list" by putting them in the front pocket to cross reference while shopping. With 3 kids in tow I need to not be distracted by my coupons, so this works best for me now. Eventually when my mind is not being pulled in 3 different directions, I might try another format.
Kristy uses 2 three ring notebooks. One is dedicated to drugstores such as CVS and Walgreens. The other notebook is for groceries. In part I do this because there are certain coupons that I want to double and only grocery stores do that. Also, it's nice to only bring one smaller binder into the store instead of a larger one. The sleeves I use are intended for baseball cards. Collectors use them to keep their cards organized. I've found this to be the best way for me to keep coupons organized and useful. I had a smaller coupon folder for a while and I had a hard time seeing all of my coupons without pulling them out. This way they are all in full view. I also pull my intended coupons before I hit the stores but I also bring my binder just in case I find a sale in the store and have a coupon to match.
One added tip (and not all of us have this luxury): go to the grocery at a time when you are alone, not hungry and ready to concentrate. Hmm...is this possible in parenthood? A calm state of mind allows you to think through your purchases and not succumb to a tiny person's whining. I find that I spend less when I don't bring my kids or my husband for that matter!
How about you? Leave a comment. We would love to hear how you organize your Qs!
Don't forget to Check out the Coupons 101 page to learn more about the language of the couponista!
Try it, You'll Like It
Okay. I apologize. If you are a mom of a toddler you probably have Yo Gabba Gabba stuck in your head now. We watch way too much Noggin...I mean Nick Jr around here.
Anyway, "Try it, you'll like it" is the name of the freebie game. There are more samples out there than any of us know what to do with. I'm pretty picky about what I have sent to my door while other frugalistas out there show no limits. They request anything. No matter where you are on the freebie scale, it's always good to get free things and try things before you buy. Here's your chance to try a new mayonaise.
Can't wait to get mine!

Something I've Learned From My Husband
My husband is not afraid to ask for anything. He will ask for a deal no matter where we are or what we are doing. And guess what? He gets it (most of the time).
Recently he saved us over $500 just by asking. Now that's impressive.
Trouble is that most people wouldn't have the guts to even ask. I think a turning point in life and saving is when a person realizes that almost everything is negotiable. With this point of view the potential for saving is exponential. So here's some encouragement to ask for a discount. It can't hurt, right?
Update: Here is a link I found on AOL this morning. Negotiating Medical Bills.

Mimi's Cafe
Email Clubs are a GREAT way to get valuable coupons. Long ago I set up a junk email account so I could rake in the savings. Now I'm able to sign up for all the great offers out there without filling up my email boxes with junk. Here's a link to one of my favorite restaurants. I don't eat there a lot but I'm always happy when I do. This restaurant won me over 3 years ago when I went out to lunch with 3 girlsfriends and my 1 year old baby. I was a little self conscious because I was the only one who brought a child. I was hoping that my son wouldn't disturb any of my friends during our "girls day out". Well, thanks to Mimi's Cafe because we were sitting not even 2 minutes when they brought out a (free) baby plate with Cherrios and bananas. My little guy did not fuss for one second that entire meal. He was so satisfied and my girlfriends had a great day out. Thank YOU Mimi's.
This LINK will take you to Mimi's Email Club where you can get valuable coupons such as Buy One Get One (BOGO). My husband and I do not go out to eat anymore without a coupon...there are just too many out there to pay full price for anything.

Water Deal at Kroger
So usually I do not buy bottled water. It is a bit of a "luxury" item in our house. But with summer time activities (pool, picnics, vacations) on the horizon I could not pass up $.05 per bottle!
Nestle Pure Life or Ice Mountain Water - $3.33/ea
Get $3 Toward your Next Purchase when you buy 3
Use $1/2 Nestle Pure Life Purified Water Multi-Packs here
Use $1/2 Nestle Pure Life Water (RP 4/11/10)
Final Price = $1.99/ea when you buy 3
To sweeten the deal. Make sure to get on Kroger's mailing list. They send a ton of coupons out (since most are manufactures coupons you can use the at other stores too). I recieved a $1 off one 24 pack of Pure Life Water. That brought my total to $1.33 per case or 5 cents a bottle!

Going Krogering?
Do you shop at Kroger? If so, use your shoppers card to save even more. Check out this website to load valuable coupons right on to your card! Could saving get any easier?
And, as far as grocery stores go, Mary and I both prefer Kroger. Yes, if you shop at all the stores in town for their major sales (or products known as Loss Leaders) you will definitely save money...if you can afford the time it takes or the gas! (Thankfully gas prices are going DOWN!).
If you have 3 kids in tow as we often do, sometimes it's all you can do to get to ONE grocery in a given week. Understandable. We have found Kroger to have the best prices overall and if you are lucky, it has a Pepe's Club so you can drop the kids off while you shop.
Do you have a favorite grocery? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments section!

Stewardship
What does it mean to be a good steward of your finances? Does it mean the same thing to every person? Is it good sterwardship for one person to lease a car every 3 years while another person drives the same car for 15 years?
These are questions that I ask myself all the time. Is it okay for me to splurge on a vacation while skimping on groceries for three months in order to pay for it?
What does God expect from us during our time on this earth? Does he want us to live like monks with a vow to utter poverty or does He want us to buy that lake house and enjoy weekends with our family.
Please join us over the coming weeks and months as we explore these and other topics. One thing that Mary and Kristy have in common (among many) is that we desire to please God in every aspect of our lives. Since we both have chosen to live on one salary and to not have a full time profession outside the home, this means that we often have to give extra thought to how we use the resources that God has entrusted to us. Finances seem to be a major issue in life and especially marriage. Hopefully we can address some of this difficult issues and help you live life to the fullest while pleasing God and your family.

Swagbucks
We LOVE getting things for FREE! Rewards programs are the best way to accomplish this. One of our favorites is Swagbucks. At it's most basic function it is search engine. So instead of going to Google to search for a recipe for dinner, you search via Swagbucks. Randomly when you search, you will be rewarded Swagbucks. Those "bucks" can then be redeemed for gift cards and prizes. Our favorite reward is the $5 Amazon gift card for 450 swagbucks. Just t give you an idea, Mary has been using SB since Feb and has earned $60 in FREE Amazon money. Of course those points were not all earned from searching. They also have codes that can be entered for SB. These are found on the SB blog, FB page and tool bar. Check it out and we think you will fall in love with Swagbucks too. We will also be posting about codes from time to time. Be aware you are not to share the actual codes itself, just tips and hints on how to find them. Join us in Swagnation!

This Week at Marc's
One of the stores that we feel is often left out is Marc's. For most people, a trip to Marc's is out of the way. So it might not be somewhere you go every week, but still has some great deals. I already mentioned the free Marcel TP. There are also several items I can only find at Marc's. They stock a terrific Hunts Sugar Free spaghetti sauce that I love. My DH also loves fruit pancake syrup and they have the best price always! Marc's also has a “closeouts” department. Think of it kind of like Big Lots. They often have toys or clothing at discounted prices. I once bought a Hanes Sports bra for $2.99 and a Champion athletic tank (with Target tag still attached) for $1.99. We will be listing a few of the highlights each week. Let’s get some of the necessary info out first, they do not double coupons but they do take online printed MQs. From time to time they also offer rebate deals (a few months back I got a $10 Discover GC from purchasing P&G products.) Here are some of the deals you will find at Marc's this week:

We LOVE Chick Fil A
Okay I have to admit it. I love Chick Fil-A. Most of my "eating out" budget goes right to Chick Fil-A. Thankfully there isn't one that is super convenient so we don't go every day or every week but we are there as often as possible. I love that they are a Christian company, they are closed on Sundays so their families can enjoy their day together (gotta admit...I don't love that part...you don't know HOW many times I've found myself waiting in the drive thru on a Sunday only to realize they are CLOSED) and the best part about my beloved Chick Fil-a? They have a sound proof kids' play area. Did I mention I love Chick Fil-A?

Are YOU on FACEBOOK?
If you are on Facebook do you know that you could be saving a TON of money? Companies are starting to realize that social networking is the way to advertise. The more the merrier I say. I have been saving so much just by "liking" or "fanning" these companies on Facebook. One of my absolute favorites is Einstein Brothers Bagels. Hit the "like" button on their fan page and it will open up the doors to many coupons over the next few weeks.
So far I've gotten 10 free bagels and other GREAT deals. Today it's a BOGO (Buy One GET One) coupon for their new Bagel Thin Sandwich. I just had one today and it was really good. The price ends up $4.29 for 2 bagel sandwiches. Not a bad price for lunch.
Einsteins is not the only company to be offering free food so go find your favorite company on Facebook then hit their "offers" tab to see what they have for you. If you find something good don't forget to share it with us. Remember, we love FREE!

Looking for Cottonelle?
Great Deal: Just stack one Target coupon with a manufacturer's coupon (linked below) for a great price on Cottonelle Bathroom Tissue.
Note: Use the IE link if you are using Internet Explorer and FF link if you are using Fire Fox.

FYI... New to couponing? You may need to download the coupon software. It's quick and easy. Also, the MQ (manufacturer's coupon is put out by the company that produces the product and that company reimburses the store for the price on the coupon).
The store coupon (ie. Kroger, Target) is put out by the store and these do not double (if your store's policy is to double coupons, this is generally only manufacturer's coupons).

Good Question
Via Facebook we just received our first question. It was in response to the post below concerning Marcs and Marcal Toilet Paper. Carrie asked, "But what if you like your TP soft?"
In essence, I think she's asking what many couponers or to-be couponers ask themselves. "Do I have to sacrifice quality to save money?"
That's what we're taught, right? You get what you pay for? Well, sometimes yes, sometimes no. Honestly I am a generics kind of gal. Let me qualify that. I'm a Kroger Generics kind of gal. If I don't have coupons for something I need I can buy with confidence knowing that most Kroger brands are as good or better than their name brand competitors.
But what if you are a brand loyalist? Can you still save money? The answer is yes...but you have to stock pile. Case in point. Today you can find Cottenelle brand Toilet paper (my favorite brand) for a GREAT price at Target. Target allows the customer to stack a Target coupon with a manufacturer's coupon. This means mega savings for the consumer. The details of this deal are in the post above but this is just an example of a way to stay loyal to a favorite brand and still save money. As you continue in your coupon journey you will see that much of your savings comes from stockpiling when prices are at their lowest. Looking out for these rock bottom prices (which occur about every 3 months) helps you to save the most money. Having space in your home for your stash is a necessity as well.
Often you will see (especially if your grocery doubles coupons) that you can save way more with the name brand product than with the store brand. Giant Eagle was running a Yoplait yogurt deal a few weeks back. I was able to get the 6 ounce yogurts for 22 cents a piece instead of 41 cents for the Kroger brand. Not a bad deal.
If you are willing to step out of your comfort zone and get a little crazy (ie. buying Yoplait instead of the Kroger brand) you will find your grocery budget slimming with each purchase.
And if you are new to couponing, take it slow. Pick a few items per week and save a little each time. Soon you'll see that its not that hard to save a lot of money.

Talking TP
We often joke with each other that we hate paying for TP; just flushing our money away!! ;) So if you can't stand even paying one cents for it, here is one way to get it FREE. Marc's sells the four pack rolls of Marcel (same TP as in the Staples deal) for .98 cents. Use the Manufacturers Coupon (MQ) from last weeks SmartSource (SS) insert to get $1 off one package. Or go here to print one for $1 off. Yeah FREE TP! It's the little things in life that make us happy! :)

A New Adventure!
Hello! We are Kristy and Mary, mothers, domestic divas and obsessed with finding a deal! If being twingles (twins plus another child) moms was not enough to fill our lives, we have also decided to jump into the world of savings blogging. Enter "4our2cents". We have been following other blogs and often think, I found a different deal, what about this store that no one covers and just where is the cheapest place to buy TP this week. So we decided, why not put our two heads together to come up with our own blog. We will not be reinventing the wheel, but we do hope to pass a little more savings on to your families. Bear with us as we learn the ropes and come join us on this adventure!
